Depression Leads to Suicide

Suicide is a major problem for teens. Suicide is characterized as the act or instance of willingly and deliberately taking one’s own life, in particular by a person with years of maturity and sound mind. Whether it’s slitting your wrists, hanging yourself, or even shooting yourself with a gun whatever your suicide may be. The majority of teenagers believe suicide is the solution to all their struggles and pain when they only make a life of misery and hurt for the people around them. Over the years suicide among teenagers has increased dramatically.

There are many causes for someone wanting to commit suicide. Depression is one of the most important causes. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by over whelming feelings of sadness, lack of interest in activities, and often times excessive guilt or feelings of worthlessness. Depression if left untreated can have dire consequences. If left untreated, depression can lead to suicide. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if someone has depression. Depression will most of the time go untreated because the individual doesn’t think there is anything seriously wrong with them. Depression is the leading cause of suicide among high school and college students. All types of depression are considered a serious illness. It seems like an odd comparison but it does demonstrate that it is not possible to take depression lightly. Depression is not something a person can cure and they wouldn’t even want to, if they could. Even when someone jokingly talks about suicide, it should be taken very seriously.

For most people with depression, medications and psychotherapy are effective. Medications may be recommended by your primary care doctor or psychiatrist to relieve symptoms. However, many people with depression also benefit from seeing a psychiatrist, psychologist or other professionals in the field of mental health. You may need a hospital stay if you have severe depression, or you may need to enroll in an outpatient treatment program before your symptoms.
